Mother’s will located in under 24 hours

The National Will Register’s will search services proved a vital step for one daughter who ended up finding the will of her late mother dating back to 1993.

After her mother had passed, Sophie (not her real name) found herself in a challenging situation where she was unable to locate the will and find her final wishes to carry out.

She had a vague recollection that her mother and stepfather had created wills many years ago, possibly around 1993. Her mother’s will was particularly crucial as she was the sole surviving offspring and believed she would be the intended beneficiary.

There was no documentation or anything concrete that would lead to the existence of a will or the contact details of a will writing professional that could have been involved in the creation of a will for Sophie’s mother.

In her conversations with The National Will Register, Sophie believed that the will was made decades ago, but there was no idea as to what law firm they would have used and that was daunting to Sophie.

However, with no idea as to any final wishes and a property in need of being sold, confirming the existence of a will and locating it was of paramount importance – both legally and emotionally.

“It took literally less than 24 hours”

Sophie had initiated a will search with The National Will Register, which can search both registered will records in its system, which has the location data of over 10.5 million wills, as well as conduct a search of wills that are not registered with The National Will Register through its REACH search making enquiries with solicitors nationwide.

The search identified the existence of a will for Sophie’s mother, dated back to 1993. The solicitors named then contacted Sophie and once her identity was confirmed, was informed that her mother’s will was with them – all within 24 hours of the initial search.

This discovery was profound for her, as it not only validated her belief that her mother had set everything in place for her future, but also enabled her to fulfil her mother’s last wishes, including a planned property sale.

On the service itself, Sophie said: “I found this service absolutely amazing. It took literally less than 24 hours to find my mum’s will, and it has made our lives so much easier. I can’t thank Clive and the rest of the company enough for helping and guiding us.”

The National Will Register helps thousands of people like Sophie in finding the wills of their loved ones to ensure that no will is missing or forgotten when it is needed most – with one in five found wills superseding a held will or not known to exist.
