The National Will Register joins charities and legal professionals across the UK to champion gifts in Wills this Remember A Charity Week
This September, The National Will Register is proud to join hundreds of charities, professional advisers and partners across the UK in celebrating Remember A Charity Week.
Remember A Charity Week (9-15 September 2024) is an annual celebration of the power and impact of legacy giving. Throughout the week, partners, solicitors, will writers, charities and others will be championing the legacy message, encouraging people across the country to help build a brighter future by leaving a gift in their Will.
As a Charity Champion, we are raising awareness of the option that testators have when writing their wills to leave a gift to charity, alongside taking care of loved ones.
Legacy gifts are on the rise with around 30p in each £1 donated to charity coming from gifts in wills and approximately 100 people a day now choosing to leave a legacy in their will to charity. These donations make a massive difference, and the so-called ‘Willanthropy’ movement has a huge impact on the fortunes of some of the nation’s most loved charities.
There are also generous tax incentives when considering making a gift to charity in a will. Charities are exempt from inheritance tax, meaning that any gifts made will reduce your estate value and reduce the amount of inheritance tax accordingly. Also a gift of 10% or more of your estate to charity would see the rate of inheritance tax fall to 36% from 40% for any value past the inheritance tax threshold.
By working together with Remember A Charity, we are looking forward to highlighting the positives of legacy gifting and hope to inspire even more people to consider what they wish to be remembered for.
